 What I'm Looking For (still) Je recherche des gens qui aimeraient être photographiés en public et révéler une part d’eux-mêmes (physique ou autre). Ceci est destiné à un projet artistique. Aucun autre type de relation n’aura cours hors la prise de photographies. Shelly Silver a placé cette annonce sur le site internet de rencontre de salon.com et a reçu (et continue de recevoir) de nombreuses réponses, des hommes pour la plupart. Sur une période de cinq mois, elle a organisé des rencontres (toutes ayant le Starbucks du Woolworth building à New York comme point de rencontre) essayant de capturer ce que les personnes désiraient montrer, quoi que ce fût. ‘What I’m Looking for’ se présente comme le feuilleton de cette aventure - une version quelque peu ‘fictionalisée’ de ces étranges liens et intimités nés entre elle et les personnes ayant répondues à l’annonce – un court récit sur le désir et la maîtrise. Shelly Silver : “J’ai travaillé avec l’image en mouvement pendant ces vingt dernières années et sa transformation en image fixe m’a incitée à longuement réfléchir sur la nature de la photographie, sur mon désir de maîtriser le temps et sur la persistance rétinienne. Il y est également fortement question d’une femme photographiant des hommes.” I am looking for people who would like to be photographed in public revealing some part of themselves (physical or otherwise). This is for an art project. No other relationship will take place outside of being photographed. Shelly Silver placed this ad on the internet dating site salon.com and received (and continues to receive) many responses, mostly from men. Over a period of five months she set up meetings (all starting at the Starbucks in the Woolworth building, NY) trying to capture whatever it is these people want to show her. What I’m Looking for is riffing on this adventure - a somewhat fictionalized version of the strange intimacies and connections that were formed between the responders and her - a short tale on desire and control. Shelly Silver: “I have been working with the moving image for the past twenty years and the move to the still image has pushed me to ruminate on the nature of photography, my desire to control time, and the persistence of vision. It is also very much about a woman photographing men.” |
